Falling in love

There are many reasons that make you experience the feeling of "love". First and foremost, Oxytocin is one of the most effective hormones that make you feel love. Your body releases oxytocin after sex or after eating a cholocate.

There are other hormones that are in the category of opioids. Opioids are the hormones that make the effect of morphine and heroine. These hormones are released when your brain thinks you found a good mating partner to have offsprings.

So basically, love is just a bunch of chemical reactions in our brains.

Falling in love is directly about evolutionary process. Maybe those related hormones are associated with love in this process.

First of all, love doesn't make any sense unless you take some of our primitive instincts into consideration. One of our strongest instinct is reproduction. This instinct is so powerful, so primitive and so fundamental that our oldest common ancestors also had it, bacteria. When first single cell organisms appeared, they began to do couple of things, eating (or something of that sort) and duplicating their DNA. Their DNA! Those little bacteria have the instinct to reproduce their DNA.

Since we have the most complex set of emotions, our reproductive urges appear some in some complicated forms. Finding best mate, having best DNA in the gene pool etc.

If we are talking about the falling in love phase then it is a very motivational feeling. Espacially for one or two weeks yoı feel more alive than usual

One of the very few illnesses of our souls. This is what makes everyone weak from Hitler to Atilla, from Stalin to Napolion, from Zorro to Julius Caesar...

Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offence. Love keeps no score of wrongs; does not gloat over another's sins, but delights in the truth. There is nothing love cannot face; there is not limit to its faith, its hope, and its endurance. In a word, there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love.

A definition I liked from Urban Dictionary.
